Speak Now (Taylor's Version)

Speak Now (Taylor's Version) is the third album Taylor Swift has re-recorded, after having her first six records sold to an old enemy, Scooter Braun.  With this project, Swift wants to take back ownership of her songs and prevent them from being used by others without her consent.  It's also a way to relive her emotions and her stories from a more confident and mature perspective.

The original album, released in 2010, was the first where Swift had written all of her songs herself.  It was a record in which she showed her fighting spirit, her imagination and her ability to tell intimate and illuminating details.  His sound moved from country to pop-rock, with influences from punk and gothic.  Her ballads expanded into epic scales, ready to fill the arenas she now crowded.

The new version of the album is quite faithful to the original, with some minor changes in production and lyrics.  Swift's voice is more controlled and less acerbic, but she manages to convey the same enthusiasm and passion as then.  Some songs like Dear John, Enchanted and Mean are masterpieces that never lose their impact.  Others like Better Than Revenge and Innocent have been revised to be more in line with Swift's current values.

The album also includes some unreleased songs such as "Electric Touch", "Castles Crumbling", "Timeless", "When Emma Falls in Love" and finally "I Can See You" whose music video was released on July 8, 2023 In the music video we find old acquaintances of Taylor like Taylor Lautner and Joey King, in the role of two "heroes" for Taylor who is kept segregated in the vault where she counts the days, the video as always contains Easter eggs that will make many fans speculate.

Speak Now (Taylor's version) is an album that demonstrates Taylor Swift's skill and determination as a songwriter and artist.  It's a record that celebrates her past without regrets, but with pride and gratitude.  It's a record that feels like the journey from girl to woman is accomplished when you hear these teenage words sung in a grown woman's voice.
