Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a film that surprised me positively, both for the plot and for the action scenes. The film is set in 1994 and follows the adventures of Noah and Elena, two Brooklyn archaeologists who find themselves embroiled in an ancient conflict between three Transformers factions: the Autobots, the Maximals and the Terrorcons. The film introduces new characters and transformations, such as Optimus Primal, the leader of the Maximals who transforms into a gorilla, Scourge, the leader of the Terrorcons who transforms into a mythological beast, and Nightbird, the ninja autobot who transforms into a motorcycle . The film also has the merit of resuming some historical characters from the saga, such as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Mirage and Arcee, and giving them a more faithful look to the original cartoons.
The film is directed by Steven Caple Jr., who manages to balance the dialogue scenes well with the fight ones, giving space for both the development of the human and robot characters. The screenplay is written by Joby Harold and four other writers, who manage to create a compelling and entertaining story, with some twists and moments of humor. Cinematography is by Enrique Chediak, who makes good use of the film's different settings, from New York to Peru, via the jungle and the mountains. The soundtrack is composed by Jongnic Bontemps, who creates music suitable for the different situations and emotions of the film.
The film stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback as Noah and Elena, who demonstrate good chemistry and good acting. Among the original voices of the Transformers stand out those of Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime), Ron Perlman (Optimus Primal), Peter Dinklage (Scourge) and Michelle Yeoh (Airazor), who give personality and charisma to their characters.
In conclusion, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a film that I recommend to all lovers of the alien robot saga, but also to anyone who wants to see a well-made and engaging action and science fiction film. The film has the merit of renewing the series by introducing new elements and characters, but also of paying homage to the tradition and history of the Transformers. The film also has the merit of having an interesting and original plot, spectacular and entertaining action scenes, well-developed characters and engaging music. The film is an excellent example of how good entertainment cinema can be made without sacrificing quality and creativity.
