Two and a Half Men

Two and a Half Men is an American sitcom produced from 2003 to 2015 and broadcast by CBS. The series tells the stories of two very different brothers, Charlie and Alan Harper, who find themselves living together in Charlie’s villa in Malibu, along with Alan’s son, Jake. Charlie is a successful musician, womanizer and irresponsible, while Alan is a separated chiropractor, precise and insecure. Their cohabitation will be a source of comic situations and contrasts, but also of affection and solidarity. Among the recurring characters there are also the mother of the two, Evelyn, a cold and manipulative woman, the housekeeper Berta, a gruff and sarcastic woman, Rose, a neighbor obsessed with Charlie, Judith, Alan’s ex-wife, and several girlfriends and lovers of the two protagonists.
The series has had a great success with audiences and critics, winning numerous awards and nominations. The strength of the sitcom is the contrast between the two main characters, played masterfully by Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer, who manage to create a comedy based on sharp jokes, physical gags and facial expressions. The series has also been able to renew itself over the seasons, introducing new characters and changing some dynamics. In fact, from the ninth season onwards, Charlie Sheen is replaced by Ashton Kutcher in the role of Walden Schmidt, a billionaire who buys Charlie’s villa after his death and hosts Alan. In the eleventh season Jenny also comes on the scene, Charlie’s lesbian daughter who had never met. In the twelfth and final season, Alan and Walden decide to get married to adopt a child.

Two and a Half Men is a funny and irreverent series that never takes itself too seriously and offers an ironic glimpse into the family and sentimental life of the two protagonists. The series is recommended for those who love classic American sitcoms, with well-characterized characters and hilarious situations.
