Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the thirty-second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, written and directed by James Gunn, which concludes the trilogy dedicated to the famous space heroes. The film resumes the events of the Guardians after Avengers: Endgame, when Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is looking for Gamora (Zoe Saldana), his beloved disappeared in the past because of Thanos. Meanwhile, the Guardians must face a new threat: Adam (Will Poulter), a super-powerful being created by the Sovereign to take revenge on them, and the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), a mad geneticist who wants to create a perfect society at the cost of eliminating anyone who does not conform to his standards. In addition, Rocket (Bradley Cooper) discovers that he has a device that could kill him at any moment, and must deal with his past and his true origin.
The film is a mix of action, science fiction, adventure and comedy, like the previous chapters of the saga. Gunn manages to balance well the tones and emotions, alternating spectacular and funny moments with more dramatic and touching scenes. The film is also full of references and homages to the world of Marvel comics and pop culture in general, with a soundtrack always apt and engaging. The film also has several cameos of well-known actors, such as Sylvester Stallone, Maria Bakalova and Nathan Fillion.
The characters are well characterized and deepened, each with its own narrative arc and evolution. Pratt is once again the charismatic and ironic leader of the Guardians, but also shows greater maturity and sensitivity. Saldana is the lethal and determined warrior who tries to find herself after losing her memory. Bautista is the destroyer with a tender heart who learns to express his feelings. Gillan is the vengeful sister who discovers the value of family. Klementieff is the empathic alien who becomes more confident. Diesel is the talking tree that grows and changes shape. Cooper is the sarcastic and brilliant raccoon who faces his destiny with courage. Poulter is the arrogant and narcissistic antagonist who wants to prove his superiority. Iwuji is the ruthless and megalomaniac villain who wants to impose his vision of the world.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a fun, exciting and surprising film, which closes beautifully the story of the Guardians and leaves them ready for new adventures. A film to watch absolutely for all lovers of the genre and characters.
