Ready to Die - The Notorious B.I.G.

Ready to Die is the debut album of one of the greatest rappers of all time, The Notorious B.I.G., released in 1994 by Sean “Puffy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records. It is a partly autobiographical album, in which Biggie tells his life as a young criminal in Brooklyn, between drugs, violence, sex and music. The album is a masterpiece of storytelling, with raw, ironic and deep lyrics, that show the complex and charismatic personality of Biggie. The production is entrusted to names like Easy Mo Bee, DJ Premier, Lord Finesse and Puffy himself, who create beats that range from soul to funk to jazz, with samples from artists like James Brown, Mtume, The Isley Brothers and Dr. Dre. The album is considered one of the most influential and important in the history of hip hop, and helped revitalize the East Coast scene, in competition with the West Coast one. Among the most famous songs are Juicy, Big Poppa and One More Chance, which became worldwide hits and introduced Biggie to the mainstream audience. Other notable tracks are Ready to Die, Gimme the Loot, Warning and Suicidal Thoughts, which express the darker and more controversial side of the rapper. Ready to Die is an album that has not lost its charm and strength over time, and is a must for anyone who loves hip hop or music in general.
